6 Natural Remedies to Help With Morning Sickness

6 Natural Remedies to Help With Morning Sickness

For all 3 pregnancies, I’ve experienced nausea which usually lasts until around 16 weeks; at least for me anyways. And we all know nausea is not ideal. I honestly would rather throw up and get it over with than to feel sick all day taking care of a toddler. But, trying to find natural remedies to help with morning sickness is no small feat since sometimes there’s just no easy cure-all for everyone.

Here are 6 natural remedies to help with morning sickness or what I like to call “all day sickness”

Ginger

Either real ginger ale soda, organic hard/chewy candies to snack on throughout the day or even ginger tea. Ginger is one of the things I couldn’t live out in those beginning weeks. The carbonation of the soda and the ginger ale helped soothe my upset stomach almost instantly.

If you’re not big on soda, try the candies and the tea. The candies are a little spicey, so if you’re not used to that go with the tea and add a little lemon and honey to it for flavor.

Magnesium and Vitamin B6

Some say if you’re experiencing nausea during pregnancy you have a vitamin deficiency, such as low levels of magnesium and vitamin B6. Studies have shown that increasing these two vital nutrients can significantly reduce the symptoms of morning sickness.

Sea-band Bracelet

Sea-Band works by using acupressure points on your wrist which help soothe and eliminate nausea. Put the Sea-Band on before travel since it takes 2-5 minutes to take effect.

Acupuncture

Find a reputable acupuncturist who has experience working with pregnant women. Acupuncture on the PC6 and Ki27 and Ki6 points help reduce nausea. The Sea-Band bracelet only works for the PC6 point on the wrist.

Bone Broth

Make your own or sip on a premade organic bone broth from the grocery store. Bone broth is pretty great stuff! It contains minerals and rich amino acids like glycine which is needed to make bile. Sipping on some bone broth which strengthens digestion and in turn, makes you feel better.

Small, Frequent Meals and Water

It is very important to eat every 1 1/2- 2 hours to prevent nausea from getting worse.  You’ll want to stick to small, high protein meals even if your appetite is low.  Often this alone will prevent morning sickness.  In general, it is also very important to stay well hydrated so drink your eight, 8-ounces of water a day.

Do you know of any more natural remedies to help with morning sickness that I haven’t already listed here?

I cannot stand ginger of any kind, I’m not sure why, but yuck. I have never tried acupuncture or bone broth for morning, afternoon and night sickness. Eating small healthy, protein filled meals frequently is the only thing I found to work, although, I haven’t been pregnant in 24 years. 🙂

  5. This post beings me back! I was always told that the sign of a healthy pregnancy is nausea ☺️ Not sure if there’s science behind that but it certainly made it bearable. What worked for me was to consume a mouthful or two of protein – The broth helped a lot, and sometimes, I’d have eggs or maybe even a couple nuts. ?
