Pregnancy Update: 39 Weeks!

Welp, no baby here yet!

I had my doctor appointment on Tuesday and she said that I was still dilated at the same progression as 2 weeks ago, so only 3 cm and 70/75% effaced. She asked if I wanted to do a sweep and I declined because obviously baby isn’t ready yet. But, she assured me that it wouldn’t work if baby wasn’t ready, but I’ll give her another week and a half and if things aren’t progressing, then I guess I’ll do it because honestly she’s starting to make my pelvic area uncomfortable. It hurts to go from sitting to standing and vice versa.

I think I need to invest in one of those belly strap things to maybe help support my big belly. My belly is honestly not as big as it could be I suppose. I was just at the memorial and all my husbands family and friends couldn’t stop complementing me on how good I looked and that I don’t look 9 months pregnant. I think they’re just trying to be nice, cause I don’t buy it. 😉 But I only have a little to go so maybe I’ll just hold off and see if she comes soon.

The other night when my husband and I went to dinner. I jokingly said, I’m going to keep all my maternity clothes for next time. His eyes immediately got big. I knew that would be the reaction I’d get, which is why I said it. He wants to try for a boy, but he said he doesn’t want to get stuck with 2 menstruating teenage girls at the same time. LOL

I mean, I guess we’ll see if we’re ready for a 2nd within the next couple of years, if not then he said I should probably get rid of my clothes. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves since we haven’t even gotten this one out to experience parenthood yet. My husband will be pushing 40 in a couple of years so I don’t want him to be getting too old, heck, I’ll be 35. Scary thought right there.

Until next time…

36 Week Pregnancy Update!

So I had my 36th week doctor appointment last Tuesday, which was going to be a fun one cause she needed to test me for Strep B. Something that I was hoping I wouldn’t have since my sister has had it with all 3 of her kids and had to have antibiotics pumped in her while going through labor. Just a simple pelvic exam with a cotton swab. Then she decided to check my cervix to see if I was dilated. YUP! She quickly said she thought I was going to go into labor anytime between now and the next couple of weeks because I was already 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. That kind of freaked me out because here I was 36 weeks and like 5 days and totally not ready to hear that yet! Yes, I am excited that we get to meet our little bundle of joy soon but I want her to cook a little longer, but I guess when she’s ready, she’s ready and there’s no stopping it.

I am now 37 weeks and 4 days and no baby yet which is okay with me. I have my next doctor appointment tomorrow and I guess we’ll see if I have progressed anymore than I already have. My biggest worry is that she’ll be telling me to go next door to the hospital to get started since I’ve progressed a lot. I haven’t really had any labor pains or Braxton hicks that much. I did have a bunch of non stop cramping yesterday, which I hear is the cervix thinning or something. Not sure.

I have been having really bad anxiety this past week ever since she told me that it could be any time. Like what if I don’t know I am actually in labor until I am already at the 3rd and final stage of labor. I want to be able to make it to the hospital and get an epidural if I absolutely need it. Like I am I really going to be able to handle being a new parent?  Things that every new mom probably thinks about, so I’ve tried to calm it down a little bit and just go with the flow. Having anxiety about labor and what’s to come will only make it worse in the long run so I gotta turn it down a notch with my worries.

Good thing is though, I am Strep B negative, but my sister says that can change from now until birth. So weird and terrifying! Don’t read horror stories about it, trust me.

So in the midst of all of this stress I’ve been putting on myself, I decided I needed a spa day with my siblings and best friend, so we went to Lavish Nails and got a pedicure. I could have used a 2 hour foot/leg massage but what we got was good enough and my fat sausage link toes looked cute, or as cute as they could look with how swollen they are.

Until tomorrow for the next update…

Baby Shower Time!

So overall, the baby shower was a success and very pretty. Definitely wasn’t expecting as much as what was done since my friend has been working crazy hours. I told her to just come over and decorate my house since she wanted to throw the party since I knew that our friends would most likely flake and I wasn’t about to fork over a lot of money for pizza when people wouldn’t show up. So we did pasta, potato salad and croissant sandwiches for my family. I left the house while they got it all prepped and ready for me and it was a nice surprise.

I chose the colors basically because it went well with the theme I wanted, mermaid. I figured that would be fitting since my husband sang “kiss the girl” from The Little Mermaid to me when we first started dating. Yep, I remember that shit.

Apparently the Princess diaper cake was in shambles when my friend got it here so my husband and step-dad ended up putting it together just in time with some skewer sticks. That thing was a pain to take apart, so I can’t even imagine what it was like putting it together! LOL

My friend ended up making this lovely paper mobile for me in the colors I like with little seahorses and seashells and pearls. She definitely did it in a way that’s less time consuming than what I did for my sisters Oregon Duck Paper Mobile. She hung the string from the crotchet ring then double sided it with the paper cutouts, smart! Then strung pearl beads in-between each one. If I decide to do one of these, I’ll definitely do it like she did next time.

Not a very good picture but she had some seashells everywhere, little drift wood pieces in the burlap bags, rocks, and she even made my husband a Styrofoam game of thrones chair diaper cake with little trinkets and cards on it. He liked it and that was awesome of her! It doesn’t necessarily go with the theme, but it does go with the name we chose for our daughter, or well, my husband pretty much chose for our daughter. lol Now I just need to convince him to help me clean up our office room so he can start making it into a mans room since its the only room in the house that essentially has all of his crap in it. Well, baby stuff too since we have limited space ATM until we can figure out where to put it all.

We still have a few things we need to get for baby, but we shall in due time since it’s not necessarily a need right now when she’ll be a newborn.

Thanks to my family and Jennifer for celebrating our little babe with us. <3

Update: Pregnancy at 32 Weeks!

I officially have 2 months left until I birth this little peanut. It’s coming up so fast that I am kind of getting more nervous. I am not nervous to have her here with us, just nervous of the whole birthing process. My sister keeps freaking me out about how she’s freaking out about dealing with the pain again and this is her 3rd. = If birth is such a painful process, why are people crazy enough to keep doing it? LOL Just goes to show that we’re selfless when it comes to the miracle of new life.

I’ve already made the decision to get an epidural if I can’t handle the pain, but I am hoping I can deal with it without getting one. But after reading some birthing stories about the ring of fire, I don’t think I’ll be avoiding it. Jeez, I do not recommend Google searching birthing stories; it might just freak you out more like it did to me. Not all are horrendous or scary though and everyone’s situation is definitely not going to be the same, so take that into consideration if you decide to read up.

I’ve been so busy lately with house stuff, birthdays, baby showers that I haven’t had too much time to update this blog or do anything else really. We had to clean out the spare bedroom, get it painted, picked up a crib and dresser set that my husband’s cousin gave us and gave that a touch of white paint since it was chipped and marked up pretty good. It came out insanely cute. I also went with a mint greenish color for the walls, and a satin white finish to the running boards to make it pop and at first it looked scary, but once it was finished, it looked nice. I’m going to add some pink decor in there to hopefully girly it up a little bit more. Can’t wait to see the end result once everything is put together. I need to start working on washing and hanging the 3 garbage bag full of baby clothes my sister gave us. It seems never-ending. I have so much to do and so little time to do it in.

the walls are not that bright or green, don't worry.

the walls are not that bright or green, don’t worry.

Once the nursery is finished up, I’ll do a before and after photo.

I’ve been having cramps which I assume are just braxton hicks? I am not 100% sure but my doctor says it’s normal. And TMI, diarrhea. I guess it’s normal at the end stages of pregnancy since your body wants to clean itself out. I’ll have to ask my doc about that but from what I’ve read it’s normal. Other than that, I feel fine besides the random pains in my pelvic area and me running out of breath walking up the stairs in our house.

My husband says I’ve been snoring and keeping him awake. Another pregnancy related annoyance that he’s just going to have to deal with. LOL

I’ve gained about 18lbs now at 32 weeks, 2 days which is fine with me and sounds good with the doc. I imagine I’ll be gaining at least a lb every week from here on out. I am not worried about my weight at this point since it doesn’t seem like I am gaining at an alarming rate. I know people who’ve gained 50lbs+ with their pregnancies and I am just like how? I can’t eat at this end stage because my stomach is so smooshed that I feel constantly full. I am eating, don’t get me wrong, but not enough to warrant an abundant amount of weight gain. It’s kind of mind baffling, but I guess everyone’s bodies are different. As long as I have a healthy baby, that’s all that matters to me. Kind of curious how much she’ll weigh at birth since my sister has 6lb tiny babies, which will probably be my nephews weight too when he’s born in 4 days.

I guess that’s all for now. I’ll do an update on the DIY stuff I did for my sisters baby shower in another post.

5 Important facts about gestational diabetes that every aspiring mother must know

Pregnancy is blessing and most of the women aspire to be mother at some point of time in their lives. The pregnancy brings with it many changes in the woman’s body and some of these changes may be negative too. The change in hormones may be the main reason for these negative and positive transformations in the body and most of these changes are short-lived and would go away after the birth of the baby. The gestational diabetes is also one such condition observed by the pregnant ladies and is the form of diabetes.

About 4% of pregnant ladies experience this condition any time during their pregnancy tenure. This is the form of diabetes and quite common amongst the pregnant ladies worldwide. The testing for gestational diabetes can be done in the 28th week of pregnancy as this type of diabetes is usually detected during 24th to 28th week of pregnancy. Though this is the normal health issue experienced during pregnancy, the proper knowledge of the condition would protect you against many possible risks.

5 Important facts about gestational diabetes

Causes
The gestational diabetes can occur to anybody but there are certain factors that are more actively associated to this type of diabetes. The females conceiving after age of 25 and having weight above or below the normal weight range are at higher risk of developing this disease. Those having family history of diabetes may also be at higher risk. The gestational diabetes is usually found in mothers giving birth to the large babies.

Symptoms and Diagnosis
The excessive weight gain of the mother and the baby is the first symptom of the gestational diabetes. Other symptoms include recurring thirst and hunger, fatigue, frequent urination, vaginal infection, and other symptoms commonly associated with diabetes. The gestational diabetes is diagnosed through glucose tolerance test that is carried out during 24th to 28th week of pregnancy. The blood sugar is checked one hour after the glucose consumption and if the reports are not under prescribed limits then subsequent tests are carried out to confirm the condition.

Adverse Effects
The mothers having this condition may usually give birth to larger babies that may also weigh up to 10 pounds. These babies find difficulty in being delivered as they may get stuck in the birth canal due to their larger body structure. The blood glucose levels in such babies are low as higher insulin is produced by their pancreas. This will result in jaundice, low blood sugar, and other related problems. The obesity during the later life may also be found in such babies.

Treatment
The treatment part is not that difficult as the sugar levels can be controlled by keeping the eating habits steady. The foods that are low on sugar and carbs may help. The expecting mothers suffering from gestational diabetes may keep the record of the blood sugar levels all the time and also record what they eat. This will minimize the risks for the baby and mother both.

Lifetime issues
This type of diabetes is related to pregnancy and generally goes away with pregnancy. The chances of developing Type 2 diabetes in future and gestational diabetes in subsequent pregnancies may increase due to this condition. Hence, enhanced eating habits are strictly recommended.

Your pregnancy can be the blessing of lifetime and little care in your routine habits may make this experience unforgettable.
