Things You Can Do to Boost Your Immune System Before and After a Pandemic

Since we’re all being affected by this pandemic scare that has some of us panicking, I figured I would share some tips to help keep your immune system up. This is NOT medical advice and I don’t claim to be a doctor. This is healthy living advice.

There has been so much conflicting information, but one thing I have gathered about this new strain of Coronavirus is that it can’t survive over 60 degrees heat. So enjoy the sun and warm beverages like tea and honey.

Things you can do to boost your immune system:

– Keep very well hydrated. Some people need more electrolytes than others to retain water. If you drink plain water and your mouth gets dry, you may be someone who needs more electrolytes. Drinking more plain water will just flush your system. If you feel you need more electrolytes, try a salty broth, coconut water, or make an electrolyte drink with water diluted juice and a pinch of salt.

– In the morning put one tsp. Apple cider vinegar in 8oz of water and drink. This will boost your immune system, increase good gut flora, and help digestion, including reducing heartburn.

– Eat fermented foods like sauerkraut or fermented pickles daily.

– Take a good multivitamin

– Take vitamin C three times a day. Increase to every 2-3 hours if you get virus symptoms

– Take 6,000-8,000 IU of Vitamin D3 at bedtime.
Increase to 10,000-20,000 for three nights if symptoms develop and them go back to normal dosing.

– Don’t eat refined sugars, especially when sick.

– Eat plenty of garlic and citrus fruits.

– If you start to get symptoms, take Zinc & Echinacea for 3-5 days. And Elderberry syrup until well. Also, eat cayenne if you can handle the heat.

– For my non-vegan friends, if you develop symptoms, cut out all dairy products because they increase mucus production.

– Try to avoid Tylenol and Ibuprofen, and antihistamines like Benadryl, if possible. They weaken the immune system and prolong viruses.

– Do not let your doctor prescribe you an opioid cough syrup with ingredients like codeine or Vicodin. Most doctors these days wouldn’t, but there are still some old school doctors that might. Opioids hurt your immune system, and only suppress coughs, but do not help you get well faster. Opioids should only be used for severe acute or otherwise uncontrollable chronic pain conditions. And the benefits should be weighed against the costs with these drugs.

– Avoid antibiotics unless you have verified lab testing that proves you have a bacterial infection. Antibiotics do nothing for viruses. And may actually harm you even more by killing off good flora and opening you up for more pathogens to compromise your already taxed immune system.

– Let fevers do their jobs. They help your body kill germs. They do NOT need to be treated unless: it’s a child with a history of febrile seizures, an adult with an underlying health condition affected by fevers, an adult with a history of seizures, a fever that is above 104, or a fever that isn’t brought down by first trying to get the person wet in a warm shower, including the hair, and then not covering the body with anything but a towel or light layers and letting them air drying to cool down. Only under one of those previous circumstances should a fever be artificially reduced.

– And most importantly, wash your hands every day, after prepping meals, changing butts, going to the bathroom. You may experience dry hands, but it’s well worth it to not be “sick”.

I don’t recommend antibacterial soap as it gets rid of your good and bad bacteria. Hand sanitizers are useless as well unless you get one with over 60% alcohol. Plain old regular soap is best.

Great tips! I’ve been taking vitamin c, 1 tbsp of elderberry syrup, drinking lemon water, and I’ve got the diffusers running. *Fingers crossed* covid-19 doesn’t have anything on us! Take care!
