Nesting is a Real Symptom

Out of all of the pregnancy symptoms, nesting has been the one that’s most true, for me anyways.

Today the computer room disgusted me so I had to clean it up and organize it a bit. It’s still not to my liking but it’s better than it was before. I’ve been browsing Pinterest (very very dangerous by the way) and have been daydreaming of all the DIY home decor. Obviously these peoples homes are way nicer than ours but if we put forth the effort to spruce up ours, it could look just as nice, but damn, who has time for all of that?

My husband has a book shelf in our office with so many books on it that it’s overflowing and becoming an eye sore. I hate it, but there’s nothing I can do about it other than buy or create another book shelf. The hard part would be getting the same color wood as the original which is an ugly oak color and doesn’t even match his desk which is cherry BTW. I hate mismatching furniture. Yes, this has somehow become a hate post… No really, I just think it’s tacky when it doesn’t match and I am sure you all would agree.

Follow Jenny’s board For the Home on Pinterest.

On my For the Home Pinterest board, I spotted this no sew table cloth canopy that I want to do over the bed to make the room look a little more nice to go with our super nice master bathroom, which I thought would look great draping down behind our sleigh bed.

See how awesomely adorable this is?

Then above our night stands, I’d like to create 2 of these sunburst mirrors. Apparently you can go to Home Depot or Lowes and grab some of their paint sticks for free and do it, but instead of taking all of their sticks since I’d probably need about 75, I’d just order them off of Amazon.

Even if I only do these 2 things, I think it would add that touch I am looking for in our master bedroom, but perhaps I shall wait until we get a King bed so I can make sure the wall hangings will be accurate, because my husband hates unnecessary holes in the walls.

For my home office, I am dreaming of this… but that’s all it will be, a dream, because I am not that talented and I doubt I’d find a desk that looks like this that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Look at how glamorous that would be. It’s so inviting and would make me actually want to come into the room instead of leave it. I’d get so much more blogging work done if I had an office like this.

Maybe one day, maybe…

but then my half would look nice and my husbands half would look horrid. Perhaps I can have him put a curtain up to separate half the room and to disguise what’s behind it. 😉

What DIY home decor have you found that you’d love to do?

A Walk Through of Our Master Bathroom Remodel

A Walk Through of Our Master Bathroom Remodel

It’s probably been about 2 weeks since our bathroom has been finished and I haven’t really had the time to update or show you the end result because I’ve been practically living in it. Okay maybe not because of water bill reasons, but I certainly wish!

We decided to hire my husband’s friend from his gym to do the work, and although they had lots of requests waiting, we decided to put our name on the list due to the quality recommendation. But, it certainly was worth the wait, because it’s AWESOME!

Here’s a little before photos to give you an idea of what it looked like. Basically your standard grade builder crap.

The countertop was already being replaced at this point as you can see.

Our crappy laminate floor. OMG, I hated this stuff since it’s so hard to keep clean and look good!

And now onto the work in progress.

Day 1 and 2

Looks completely scary, but what do I know about home remodel.

Our friend the contractor suggested that we have ceiling lights put in which I think was a great idea because we don’t have natural light in here and not enough light from the vanity area to output towards the shower. So it would have been way too dark. And as you can see, we’re having a shower head come out through the ceiling as well. Can’t have a nice shower without a rain shower head, can you?

Day 3, 4 and 5

Also, a recommendation by our contractor was to put in a bench. I almost think we made it a little too big but he asked how big we wanted it. I guess you just don’t realize how big something will be until it’s all finished. But there’s still enough room in there for my husband and I to both shower at the same time. The bench definitely makes it easier for my pregnant butt to shave my legs, so that’s a plus.

We spotted this porcelain tile at Comfort Interiors in Vancouver, WA and both my husband and I loved it, so we figured we need to plan around this to make it work as good as possible. The funny thing was when we went back to make sure it was the actual tile we wanted, another couple was in there and found the same one out of all the tile and wanted to borrow it as well. It’s obviously a very good, eye-catching piece of tile.

We also wanted porcelain tile because it’s easier to keep clean. We had it cut in rectangles and going in the opposite direction of the shower to break up the pattern a bit since we’d be using it in there as well.

And finally a couple weeks after they started, it was finally finished.

Here’s the complete remodel of our master bathroom minus the bathroom mirror frame that I need to keep nagging my husband to do. LOL

As you can see, the mirror desperately needs that frame. I think it would make it look 100% better if it did. And if you didn’t notice, we kept our original cabinetry since they were fine. We did upgrade the knobs to a brushed nickel finish though. Cabinetry is not cheap and we already knew we were spending way too much with the other stuff we ordered.

We did paint the walls even though you can’t really tell because my husband chose the lightest gray possible since he didn’t want it to be “too dark” in the bathroom. I think it needs more color since it looks too white. I mean the paint swatch was called a stone white. But, we’ve already spent enough money, so the walls will have to wait again until a later date.

And our shower in all of its magnificent glory.

Now we no longer feel like taking a shower is a chore!

And it’s definitely nice to have more room and not have to step over a tub ledge when you’re 8 months pregnant.

Don’t worry, we still have a second bathroom with the same crappy tub in it for when the baby comes. We know that a tub is a must-have for resell value, but hopefully, this will bump up our value as well. Not thinking as much as we invested into it, but maybe one day, IF the market keeps coming back up.

I’m now looking for more ways to decorate in here, but if my husband had his way, nothing would be in there at all except the basic necessities. Pfft.

Just need to get our room looking nicer to go along with this nice looking master bathroom.

Easy Options For Home Improvement Projects
When you’re enhancing a dwelling for resale, or for yourself, the selections you make can make it or break it in resale profits. This post will surely help you understand the finest options you could make and why. Get-out that pencil and paper, because you are gonna need to write this stuff down.

If you place new cupboards in your house, your kitchen will glow with elegance and design. New cupboards show all your relatives and buddies that the kitchen is really a specialist area for cooking and amusement. You’ll find cupboards in light wood stains and dark wood stains, providing you the capacity to personalize your kitchen to your own particular preferences.  A simple and economical means to spruce up your own house is by painting the inside. To estimate the quantity of paint you’ll require, you must compute the square-footage of the walls. Simply multiply the span of the wall by its own height. One gallon of paint will cover about 350 square feet. Keep in your mind that you’ll need two coats of paint, based on what colour you’re painting over.

Avoid creating costly renovations according to individual preferences. Investing $1,000 a tile in your toilet may appear like a great strategy but the chances are if you ultimately sell, you won’t recoup that cash. In case the change isn’t something which could be valued by somebody besides you, consider doing something different.  When doing home improvement jobs around kitchens with gas stoves, gas fire-places, or gas water heaters, it’s quite crucial that you switch off the gas supply line. This may avoid any likelihood of harm or death due to gas escapes, which may result in suffocation or creating fatal gas explosions.

Consider adding additional insulation during the next job. Put weatherstripping on all of your doors and windows. Your cooling and heats will function more economically if you’re able to reduce the outdoor air that enters your house. Additionally, you will find yourself saving a lot of cash on your next power bill.  A fantastic home improvement suggestion would be to contact local repair services and shop around to discover the top bargain. By looking around, you’ll have more of an understanding of who you’re employing, and also you’ll be highly inclined to get the perfect man for the occupation. This is often a fantastic method to ensure you are getting quality work done.

Increase kitchen cupboard space for storage. Utilize a turntable inside a cupboard for smaller things for example spice jars. In bigger cabinets, use shelf dividers to double the storage space. Stack things on top of one another, for example canned or boxed foods products. Install flooring to ceiling pantry cupboards. The main tip? Eliminate whatever you may not want or use, for example old appliances or tableware. Any food which you really do not mean to eat, particularly canned things, could be contributed to the local food bank.
