Dentists: Such Ripoffs

So I had my dental appointment early this morning at a new dentist office to get my impacted wisdom tooth looked at and the rest of my teeth since it’s been a couple years since I’ve been to the dentist for lack of insurance reasons. Apparently I need to get 3 of 4 wisdom teeth cut and removed and have a few small fillings done. I swear the dentist told me I had 2 cavities on my right side and then 1 on the left, but when I went up to the check out counter to discuss costs with the receptionist, she listed 5 cavities. Hmm, I am not sure if they’re trying to swindle me here or if the dentist made a mistake. I know what I heard was correct, but it kind of makes me weary since I know some places practice this shady nonsense to get more money out of you.

I didn’t agree to anything since apparently they’re estimating that its going to cost almost $1,000 to get 3 widsoms removed and 5 fillings, and no, that’s not total, that’s just the amount I’d pay at the time of service with insurance covering the rest. I’ve never had to pay the amount upfront before, so I found that a bit odd. And, they’re tacking on IV sedation for like $400 of that total, so I am definitely not going along with that. Honestly, I am not that nervous or scared or too worried about it really, I just want them out, so I can be over with the random infection/swelling/mild pain that comes with the 1.

So in about 6 weeks when they get the absolute total from insurance that I would have to pay, then I can proceed or find a different dental office. I mean, I’ve already waited this long, 6 more weeks probably won’t kill me… but the bill probably will.

You can read this guys story about how Dentists Are Ripping Us Off. He went to 50 different dentists offices and all of them gave vastly different diagnoses and prices. Unfortunately it happens and he’s living proof!

Can Getting Older Get Any Worse?

I feel like I am falling apart over here…

When we got back from Mazatlan, Mexico last month, I started experiencing unusual throbbing pains in the ovary area on the 17th. I didn’t really think anything of it until it continued all throughout the day for the next couple of days, followed by light spotting for 4 days, sharp pain throughout the breasts, fiery nipples and extreme fatigue, so I started searching over symptoms online. Everything was leaning towards pregnancy. So a friend of mine brought over some dollar store tests and I took one of those which said not pregnant. I figured maybe it was too early to tell since it had only been a week. I then waited until the day my period was supposed to come and took a test then and it was negative. About 20 minutes later, AF arrived, so all of these weird symptoms I was experiencing left me completely dumbfounded.

I decided I should get a doctors appointment made because these occurrences are not normal for me. Although it’s been over a month since I’ve experienced that pain and those symptoms, I still get it, just not as bad or as frequently. My next doctor appointment is this Wednesday, and I’m getting a complete pap smear and some tests ran. I am hoping it’s nothing major, but I can’t help but think of the worst. As I type this, it’s pulsating in my right ovary, so I hope it’s just a benign cyst or something and not uterine/ovarian cancer. My grandma had it in her 20s, so that’s always a thought that crosses my mind.

ovary pain

And my sciatic nerve is giving me issues again. Not as bad as the first time, but enough that I had to be couch bound for a full day. I got an oxy from my step-dad which helped his back problem, but it did not resolve my pain and left me feeling extremely nauseous. Never again will I take that crap! I would rather deal with the pain than feel like I am going to vomit all day long. The only thing that helped alleviate my sciatic nerve pain in my lower back is a heat pack and stretching. It hurts to stretch but it helps, trust me! I feel like its worse when I’m sitting in the upright position, and it goes all the way down my leg into my feet. My foot feels like its on fire right now. If I have my leg bent at all, I get that sensation.

and to top it off, I have a swollen, impacted wisdom tooth. Thankfully, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning to get that looked at and hopefully will be getting it out in the next couple of weeks so I don’t have to deal with it anymore.

So as my original question says, can getting older get any worse?

Probably so…

Not looking forward to it, that’s for sure!
